Health & Entry Requirements of South Africa: An international yellow fever inoculation certificate IF travelling from yellow fever zone. Passports are required valid for 6 months upon entrance with one blank page minimum, a return ticket and sufficient funds. The majority of European and Commonwealth countries plus the US get to stay for 90 days.

Medical Requirements of South Africa: Adequate medical insurance and malaria precautions if travelling to malaria zones. Check with your accommodation whether they have nets and what recommendations they have.

Work Permits:  A work permit is required for those wanting to work in South Africa and coming from outside. Applicants of a work permit contact the South African Embassy, High Commission, Consulate or Trade Mission of his/her own country where a government form B1 - 159 (A & C) will be required to fill in. Application processing period can be 8 - 12 weeks.

Quota Work Permits: The Department of Home Affairs aims to source certain skills from abroad that are in demand. Formal qualification and work experience in these fields are necessary and these applicants can apply for quota work permits which costs about R1600. After the approximate 7 week processing period, the applicant will gain a 90 day period, starting from they date of entering South Africa, to find employment in this specific field. Thereafter the permit is valid for the duration of the applicant being employed in this specific field, regardless of changing employers.
