Africa, in particular Southern Africa, is looking forward to a great soccer worldcup. 2010 gives hope to holiday accommodation establishments, travel and tour operators. African governments are investing large sums to improve infrastructures and upgrading stadiums for training purposes.
Zambia and the 2010 Worldcup
A contract has been signed between the Chinese government and Zambia to build an ultra-modern 40 000 capacity stadium in the Copperbelt capital of Ndolo.
Bizwayo Nkunika (Permanent Secretary of Zambia's Works and Supply Ministry) and Zhang Zijun (head of a 13-member Chinese delegation) signed the contracts to this construction, which is estimated to cost around $65 million.
Both sides are in a hurry to get the project off the ground as soon as possible ensuring building to be finished before 2010.
Botswana and the 2010 Worldcup
International football teams may find (the positioning of) Botswana ideal as preparation venue and training base. The country offers an ideal climate and altitude similar to South Africa, top quality infrastructure, team-support and political stability.
Botswana's Tourism Board in the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism is focusing on a national strategy of hosting International football teams during 2010 and raising its key markets' profile globally. Thus resulting in the birth of entrepreneurs and a positive growing economy.
Zimbabwe and the 2010 Worldcup
Zimbabwe will receive a visit from FIFA officials in aim to assess its capacity for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, it's visitors and teams. And thus deciding its fate in whether Zim will benefit from this huge travelling event.
The Zim government plans to invest $20 million on sprucing up hotels, stadiums, transport and other. This will be investigated by FIFA, as in May agreements have been signed between Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and of course South Africa to share border-free-tourism and packages during the worldcup. This will result in a sharing of the tournament benefits.
The parties, combined, are called the Limpopo - Zambezi Destination. The Limpopo - Zambezi Destination role is to research tourism and through data and statistics, get a profile on the present traveller. The Limpopo - Zambezi Destination will get ample marketing attention, and package tours, advertising strategies and branding.
