South Africa - Disabled Travel
Any establishments that advertise that they cater for the Disabled have indicated that they host at least one guest room with en suite bathroom which has been equipped for the wheelchair-bound holidaymaker in South Africa plus a wheelchair-friendly dining room.
Requirements for disabled-friendly rooms are:
- Ramp access to the building.
- Ground floor room or lift to the floor on which the room is located.
- The door to the room should be large enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
- Enough space around furniture.
- Facilities in arm's reach i.e. air-conditioner controls, blind cords, television, etc.
- The bathroom should be large enough for a wheelchair and should be properly equipped with the appropriate handles and bars.
- If meals are served, the dining room should have wheelchair access.
Remember, planning ahead can make all the difference to a successful or frustrated holiday. Please contact your South African guestroom, B&B or your chosen accommodation establishment prior to arrival and make sure that all of your requirements will be met in especially the room, bathroom and dining room.
