Cape Town residents are finally getting the opportunity to buy Green Electricity from the city, made available from the same week as WWF's International Earth Hour end of March 2010.
“It is particularly significant that the sale of the Green Energy Certificates is taking place in the same week as the WWF’s International Earth Hour on 27th March,”
Cape Town enabled Darling's Wind Farm Project in 2006 by taking part in a Power Purchase Agreement with Darling Wind Power Pty (Ltd). The aim is to ultimately reach 10% of its overall energy requirements from sustainable sources in the next 10 years and thus lessen air pollution. As a green electricity certificate holder, you will not receive green electricity directly, but rather become a participant in the generation of this environmentally friendly alternative - which is a first step towards improvement.
