Nestled in the unspoilt wilderness of the Malaria free Waterberg, Limpopo Province, South Africa, Shibula Lodge is located a mere 2,5 hours from OR Tambo airport. Shibula Lodge and Bush Spa, is a five star accredited lodge in the Welgevonden Private Game Reserve.

The Waterberg was first made famous by Paul Kruger who founded the Kruger National Park, when he used to give difficult Boer farmers in the Republic land in the Waterberg wilderness areas to farm on.

“Shibula” meaning ‘Wild Lady”, was given to a Black Rhino who was reclaimed from an European Zoo, and became the world’s first rhino to have calves after her return to the wild. Perhaps the stillness of the African bush was enough to erase her earlier memories of captivity. Shibula Lodge offers the same kind of retreat, with safaris and walking trails to remind you of untamed days gone by.

Shibula was voted by Getaway Travel Magazine as one of the top 10 most romantic destinations in South Africa, and by Elle and Marie Claire as one of the "Pick of the Best" Bush Lodges.

In this 36 000 hectare reserve, the big five (Lion, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant and Leopard) roam freely, an extraordinary diversity of plant and animal wildlife, as well as more than 350 species of birds can be viewed. Guests are assured of pleasant climate all year round and exceptional game viewing, including some of the best Rhino sightings on the continent.
