South Africa is rich in sites of cultural, battlefield and political importance such as Robben Island. These sites are dotted all over South Africa and proof of the country's turbulent past.
Robben Island in the Western Cape where ex-President Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.
Constitution Hill in Johannesburg which is a historic prison site and host of the new Constitution Court.
Apartheid Museum at the Gold Reef City, Johannesburg, where you can experience South Africa of old.
Hector Pieterson Precinct in Soweto, where the 1976 school and memorial to the children's rebellion exists.
The Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria which honors the Great Trek.
