Darwin and the Cape
In 2009 we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, plus the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species. This exhibition provides an overview of Darwin’s life, his adding to biology, and his relationship with the Cape.
African dinosaur exhibition: phase 1
With sauropod dinosaur Jobaria skeleton, which was cast from a fossil discovered in northern Niger by Dr Paul Sereno and the huge head of Carcharodontosaurus, a close relative of Tyrannosaurus, and the skull of the extinct crocodile Sarcosuchus.
Beads - ritual and ornamentation
Features prehistoric and ethnographic beads from southern Africa. Objects include Nassarius kraussianus shell beads, dating back to 77 000 years. These are among the earliest beads discovered anywhere in the world.
