South African holidays - sights and activities - Surfing
Surfing in South Africa is popular as many epic waves are found here and world-class contests such as The Red Bull Big Wave Africa at Cape Town, Western Cape and Billabong Pro Jeffrey's Bay shows world champions such as Kelly Slater ride classic waves alongside locals. Around these championships, guesthouses and b&b's are usually fully booked. If you need accommodation around the Billabong Pro, make sure to plan ahead.
Remember the Baz bus which does most and almost any route from all backpackers accommodation in South Africa.
Respecting the surfer's need not to have every good spot splashed on the www, we refrain where possible from drawing maps and directing the crowds to these surfing sweet spots. If you simply must find a place mentioned on our pages, you will have to ask at your holiday accommodation and the locals and if they see fit to share their waves - go ahead and enjoy.
Accommodation in South Africa mostly ranges from the backpacker to the luxury 5*. Our accommodation directory has plenty to offer any income-bracket surfter - so make sure to surf these pages.
